ABOUT THE ARTIST I'VE BEEN MODELING AND SCULPTING SINCE I WAS ABOUT 12 YEARS OLD. THAT IS ABOUT 60 YEARS NOW. I'M STILL GOING STRONG. I'VE NOT HAD FORMAL TRAINING BUT HAVE TAUGHT AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL. FOR SOME REASON GOD GAVE ME A GIFT. I HAVE THE ABILITY TO SHOW OTHERS HOW TO DO THIS UNIQUE ART. I'VE ACCOMPLISHED MUCH AND HAVE WON MANY AWARDS. I NOW GIVE INEXPENSIVE PRIVATE LESSONS AND ALSO TEACH AT VON LIEBIG ART CENTER HERE IN NAPLES, FLORIDA.
I HAVE PIECES IN THE COLLECTION OF BILL AND MELINDA GATES, DON IMUS, 50 GOVERNORS, AND MANY OTHER WELL KNOWN FOLKS. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF MINIATURES FOR THE FRANKLIN MINT AND HAD ACHIEVED SOME FAME. THEN MY WIFE AND I MOVED TO PANAMA, IN CENTRAL AMERICA WHERE I DID VERY FEW PIECES AND ONLY GAVE A FEW PRIVATE LESSONS. I DID NOTHING TO KEEP MY ARTISTIC SKILL KNOWN IN THE ART WORLD, SO I'M TRYING TO GET RECOGNIZED AGAIN, FOR THE SECOND TIME. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I HAVE BEEN VERY PRODUCTIVE SINCE I'VE RETURNED AND ACTIVE IN TEACHING THE ART.
WHILE FAR AND AWAY MOST OF MY WORK HAS BEEN COMMISSIONED, I DO CREATE PIECES THAT PLEASE ME. MANY PEOPLE PREFER THEIR BUSTS NOT BE SHOWN ON THE WEB SITE SO I DON'T. WHILE I SPECIALIZE IN BUSTS, I DO HORSES AND COWBOYS AND INDIANS AS WELL BECAUSE THEY ARE FUN FOR ME. MY PRICES ARE MODEST BECAUSE I ONLY DO THIS OUT OF LOVE FOR THE ART. I DID VERY WELL IN THE BUSINESS WORLD BEFORE I RETIRED. IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME THE FINE ART BE ACCESSIBLE TO THOSE WITH LIMITED INCOMES.
I AM THE ONLY ARTIST I KNOW OF THAT GUARANTEES YOUR SATISFACTION IN ADVANCE, IN OTHER WORDS I PRODUCE THE PIECE AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU DON'T PAY ME ANYTHING. IF YOU DO LIKE IT, THEN YOU DECIDE IF YOU WANT IT IN STONE, GRANITE, FIBERGLASS, OR BRONZE AND THAT REALLY DETERMINES THE FINISHED COST. A FINISHED BUST IN CULTURED STONE STARTS AT $400 THEN UP FROM THERE IN OTHER MEDIUMS. I INVITE YOU TO CALL ME AT 239-560-0948 WITH YOUR IDEA OR QUESTIONS, OR EMAIL ME AT PANAMACASE@YAHOO.COM
My style leans toward the "loose" or expressionist. It is easy for an accomplished sculptor to make a smooth clean looking bust. In my opinion one gets a more expressive look by using the "loose" style I use. My background is that God gave me a gift. I have never had a lesson. However, my long history in the chemical industry allowed the development of some unique composites of materials that keep costs down, and maintain the classical look.
The medium I use is dependent on a couple of things. Sometimes you "must" make the piece in bronze, it is part of the statement. Other times, especially when doing a classical look piece I believe that you must use classical materials mixed with contemporary chemicals to get the look you want. Note St. Matthew.
I nearly always begin with water-based clay. Occasionally with small pieces I use a special sculptors wax. Then I make a mold, from that mold I make a wax and deliver that wax to the foundry they cast it in bronze, steel, aluminum. Often I cast my own pieces in a blend of stone, (Carrara marble, or stone powder of some color) mix with resins to get a finished stone look and much lower cost.
My inspiration comes from, largely the classics in art or literature. Often contemporary happenings cause me to produce a piece. While I have a thriving business in commissions, I still do pieces just "because " I need to do them to please myself.
